And Bake I Did

You can now add me to the fan list for the Kitchen-Aid mixer. I had so much fun making all the baked goods last Saturday. One of the most popular goodies that was made was the Copycat Starbucks Pumpkin Scones. They were moist and flavorful. You can find the recipe here.

Happy Birthday To Me

My birthday was on Monday.   It went by without too much fanfare, just the way I like it.  I did treat myself to something I have wanted for years.  After taking the criossant class I wanted one even more.  It came Friday and I couldn’t be happier.

  

 Let the baking begin.  I will share what is being made in another post! What is your favorite recipe that you use your mixer for?

I’m Not A Chocoholic 

No, really I’m not.  As I have gotten older I have learned to appreciate it more, but I can honestly say I don’t crave it like some do.  Now,give me salted caramel anything, or cheesecake…I crave that.  

I took another wonderful cooking class called Chocolate Obsession.  On the menu to make: chocolate soufflĂ©, chocolate hazelnut biscotti, chocolate almond dragees, and Grand Marnier truffles.

We were shown how to make the chocolate soufflĂ© first.  It was very tastey, however too much chocolate for me. 

 Here we made the chocolate hazelnut biscotti. It’s not too sweet but at the end they tossed it in surg at which made from great presentation. This was really good even without the cup of coffee.

 Next up was the chocolate almond dragees.  Loved the process that it takes to make them. I will be making these at home. 

   Last the Grand Marnier truffles.  It’s a dirty job but someone has to do it.  I loved the ones topped with the salt.  They were rich, chocolate bundles that just melted in your mouth.  These too will be made again. 
 

Macaron Madness

Today I took another cooking class.  This one was to learn how to make macarons.  This class was a was kind of a whim.  I wanted to take the class but wasn’t planning on taking to so soon.  You get an email that says 50% off select classes well, I just had to.  

I have never made or attempted to make a macaron before.  I have eaten them,  many, many, times.  Different flavors, super expensive ones, frozen ones.  Some were tasty, some ended up in the trash.  I loved the crunch of the outer part of the cookie, then the chewy part, and the creamy filling.  You get the idea,  I enjoy theses little bite sized cookies.

Anyway, I took the class, learned how to make them.  Oh boy they are better than I have bought or tried.  I will be making more in the near future, after I make a batch of criossants, after I get that Kitchen Aid mixer I’ve had my eye on. 

       

Last Saturday Fun

My daughter (Sam) and I took a cooking class together at Sur la Table.  A croissant workshop to be exact.  Oh the fun we had.  I can cook with the best of them, I truly enjoy cooking, baking on the other hand seems so much more difficult.  We started out making cinnamon rolls with croissant dough.

  Then we made croissants. We learned how to roll the dough, fold the dough,  temperature of the dough, and not to be too impatient.
   
 We followed all that up with chocolate croissants.

  Then we got to take all the goodies home!  Such a fun class, and very educational.  Looking forward to taking another class with them again soon. 
 

The gray journey

As I mentioned in an earlier post I’m growing out my hair. No more color. I’m in the midst of the awkward stage. If you look at me just right you can see all my grays peeking through. Those who don’t know me give me funny looks at my head. You know the ones, they look at you in your eyes and then look at the top of your head as you’re talking to them.
I’ve been on Pinterest seeing how short I’m willing to go. I think I have about 1-2 months before I can even think about chopping it all off.

Wow what a big head. Lol

I made this recipe (from Pinterest) the other night and wanted to share it with you. I added more peppers than what was called for, and I also transferred my potatoes to a bowl and used the same pan to cook the rest of the ingredients. Super fast, easy, inexpensive, and edible. It made enough for me and two teens. Yup, they ate it up too. This is my picture, but hers is much prettier.

How big is your biggest hook?

I’m usually not one to go for an impulse buy, unless it’s on sale or clearance. Okay so I do impulse buy. But today my buy was really unexpected. So I’m perusing the yarn isles at the craft store looking for yarn for a blanket. I think I went up and down those two isles at least 5 times. Looking for the right yarn, and the right color. Making sure they had enough skeins in the same dye lot. I know you’ve been there. Then it caught my eye. How did I miss this the last 4 times I went down this isle. There it was, a huge wooden crochet hook. What? Where has this been my crocheting life? These really exist? How could I have never seen this before? I had to have it. What would I use it for? What will I make with it? Who knows…just buy it. I still have no idea what I’m going to do with it, but it’s all mine.
Anybody out there have a 19mm or bigger hook? Tell me, show me what you’ve done.

I wanted to share a recipe with you as well. I found this roast recipe on Pinterest. I made it a couple of weeks ago and it was absolutely wonderful. It takes an inexpensive cut of meat and cooks it at a low temperature for several hours. What you get is a tender juicy roast. Here is mine after it was done.
